My Best Buys This Weekend

I've come down with a cold, or possibly the flu, plus three out of the four us seem to have pink eye. So I don't trust myself to write a thoughtful article on how to make and save money this week. Instead, I offer up the good deals I picked up this weekend, in the hopes that you can also take advantage of at least some of them:

Better than free contact solution:
I can't believe how much I used to spend on contact solution, and now I get it for free! Complete Multipurpose Solution is on sale for $7.99 at Walgreens, and is giving an $8 Register Reward. Use the $2/1 coupon from the 5/16 RP to turn the deal into a $2 moneymaker. I had two coupons, so I got 2 of these. I may swing by again this week to pick up a few more bottles without coupons, because they're still free after RR and that's better than paying $4 at Target!

Free barrettes:
Also at Walgreens, selected Goody brand hair accessories are on sale for $2.99 and giving a $3 RR. I picked up 2 of these, too.

Cheap Yo Crunch Yogurt:
At Ralphs, the 100-Calorie Yo Crunch Yogurt 4-packs are on sale for $2. Use the 75 cents/1 coupon from yesterday's SS, which will double to $1. I had two coupons, so I did 2 transactions and got 2 for $1 each.

Cheap Laundry Detergent:
I looked at the Target closest to me, but couldn't find the Green Works detergent that is on clearance at some stores for $3.48 (and becomes 48 cents when you use the $3/1 printable coupon). Fortunately, Ralphs has All detergent on sale for $2.99, and All Oxi is included in the sale. So I used two $2/1 coupons from the 5/16 RP to get 2 bottles for 99 cents each. The sale also includes Surf powder detergent, so I snagged the last box using the $2/1 coupon from the 5/16 RP - I'll give it to the friend I mentioned a few days ago, because she uses powdered detergent.

Better than free men's body wash:
Did anyone get as big a kick as I did out of the varieties of Old Spice body wash? They're free after ECB this week at CVS, with a limit of 2. I think my favorite is the Swagger, but I also got a kick out of Odor Blocker and the High Endurance that came in the NASCAR edition bottle. I used the B1G1 coupon from the 4/18 RP, paid $4 for the one bottle, and got an $8 ECB for next week.

Cheap Challenge Spreadable Butter:
I've mentioned before that I try to stick with RBST-free dairy products, so Challenge butter is my preferred brand. At Ralphs this week, the smaller tub of spreadable butter is on sale for $1.99. I used the $1/1 coupon in the Ralphs coupon booklet to get it for 99 cents. This freezes quite nicely, so you can stock up during sales like this.

Free Odwalla bar:
Odwalla bars are on sale for $1 at Pavilions (and Vons/Safeway), I think through June 15. There's a free magazine at Ralphs right now near the weekly circulars called Optimum, which has several coupons including a 50 cents/1 Odwalla beverage or bar. At $3.29 for less than 16 ounces, the juice is too pricey, in my opinion, but the bar is free after double coupon.

Free Wacky Mac pasta:
Another Pavilions (and Vons/Safeway) deal. Bags are on sale for $1, so free after 50 cents/1 coupon from the 5/16 SS.

Cheap Dixie paper plates:
Rite Aid has packages on sale for $1.99 this week, and there was a 50 cents/1 coupon in yesterday's RP (apparently this is regional, and some areas got a $1/2 coupon instead). I use two of these coupons, and a $2/2 Dixie coupon from Rite Aid Video Values (available last month but not this month). I've been reading some stories on the coupon forums about Rite Aid cashiers refusing to accept Video Values coupons but I had no trouble at all. According to the coupon policy posted at I Heart Rite Aid, cashiers should accept a RA coupon and a manufacturer's coupon for each item, so I was prepared with a copy of it just in case - but I'm glad I didn't need it.

As you can see, I picked up some great deals this weekend, and it's a pretty typical weekend for me. I hit seven stores over the two days, not all at once.
