Walgreens Starter Scenarios: 4/17 - 4/23/11

You'll find a list of this week's Walgreens deals here.

If you're new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don't understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money's FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at Walgreens. In these transactions, I assume that you do not have any Register Rewards to start with.

Transaction #1:
Buy 1 Reach Total Care Plus Whitening Dental Floss @ $2.99
And 2 Colgate Total Advanced or Gum Defense Toothpaste @ 2/$6

Use 1 $2/1 Reach Total Care Plus Whitening Dental Floss 10/10/2010 Red Plum insert
Use 2 $1/1 Colgate Toothpaste 4/10/2011 Smart Source insert

Pay: $4.99 + tax
Receive: $2 RR for Reach + $4 RR for Colgate

*Kate pointed out that many of you might not have a coupon from last October. If you don't, use this $1/1 printable and pay just $1 more.

Transaction #2:
Buy 1 Nivea for Men Bodywash @ $3.79
And 2 Comet cleaning powder @ 2/$1 after in ad coupon
And 2 Scotch Magic Tape @ $1.99 each Buy one get 2 Free after in ad coupon
And 1 Goody Hair Accessory @ $3
And 2 cartons of eggs @ $1.29 each

Use 1 $3/1 Nivea for Men Bodywash 4/17/2011 RP Insert
Use 2 $0.25/1 comet cleanser coupon
Use 2 $1/1 Scotch Magic Tape Roll (pdf) {hand over the manufacturer's coupons before the in-ad coupon to avoid beeps}
Use $4 RR & $2 RR from previous transaction

Pay: $0.86 + tax
Receive: $3 RR for Goody + 2 Free One Night Redbox Rentals for eggs

**I can't find the Comet coupon in my ad, so this may be a regional deal. If you don't have it either, you can substitute any cheap item, or simply eliminate it from your scenario and pay $0.36 + tax.

In sum, for $5.86 + tax out of pocket, you take home dental floss, 2 toothpaste tubes, body wash, 2 Comet cleaners, 2 rolls of Scotch tape, a hair accessory, and eggs, plus you get two free one-night movie rentals. You couldn't do that at Target!

Plus, you can use the $3 RR to buy something else, like an Easter basket filler, or you could save it to roll next week.

I love that you do these scenarios! Its super helpful for a newbies. But, what new couponer is gonna have a coupon from 10/10/2010?! That's super frustrating. Just wanted to let you know...

thank you for everything you do! I really appreciate the Ralphs match ups, too.

@Kate - I hear what you're saying, there's only so much I can do though! You can always use a coupon clipping service to get coupons you need but don't have. I also took into account the fact that I had coupons before I began playing The Drugstore Game, just not in multiple quantities.

@Kate - And I updated the post to include a link to a $1/1 printable you can use instead :)

I just came back from Walgreens. The in-ad coupon was for Ajax, not comet cleaner. The Comet was $1.29 each. I ended up getting cotton balls, which I needed, instead. Still saved $25 with the 2 transactions!

@Michelle - Great work! I noticed earlier today when I was going through my ad for the first time that there was no Comet coupon so I updated the post, but good to see you didn't need it :)
