CVS Starter Scenarios: 6/26 - 7/2/11

You'll find a list of this week's CVS deals here.

If you're new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don't understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money's FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at CVS.

Be sure to sign up for a free CVS Extra Care card - you'll need it for the following deals (get it in store instead of online so they give you the card right away). You may also want to pick up a CVS green bag tag to earn ECBs for using reusable bags.

Transaction #1:
BUY:
1 RepHresh Brilliant pH Tampons, 18 ct - $6.79

USE:
$1/1 RePhresh Tampons printable

Pay: $5.79 + tax
Receive: $6.79 ECB

Transaction #2:
BUY:
3 Dove Men + Care Body Wash, 13.5 oz - $5 each

USE:
2 x $1/1 Dove Body Wash, 10 oz+ 06/26/11 RP
B1G1 Dove Men+Care Body or Face Wash, 13.5 oz or Active Clean Shower Tool 06/26/11 RP
$6.79 ECB from previous transaction

Pay: $1.21 + tax
Receive: $5 ECB

Transaction #3:
BUY:
1 Charmin Basic - $5.49

USE:
$0.25/1 Charmin Toilet Paper 6/5/2011 P&G
$5 ECB from previous transaction

Pay: $0.24 + tax
Receive: $1 Upromise credit

At this point, you've paid $7.24 + tax for 3 bottles of body wash, a box of tampons and toilet paper - you could easily pay more than that for just 2 bottles of body wash at Target. Plus, you get $1 added to your Upromise account!

My local CVS told me I had to use the EB to buy the product I got the EB for! For example, I bought some Garnier facial scrub and got $5 EB. I went to use it to buy other items and was told I could only use it towards buying more Garnier facial scrub. Did I just speak to a cluless clerk?

@Anon - Unless the ECB is actually a coupon for Garnier, then you should be able to use it on anything. I think you just got a clueless clerk!

Thanks - next time I'll get more insistent. It was definitely just a ECB that I happened to earn buying Garnier face wash and not a Garnier coupon.

(Oops - kinda funny that I forgot the "e" on clueless when ranting about a clueless clerk!)
