CVS Starter Scenarios: 7/31 - 8/6/11

You'll find a list of this week's CVS deals here.

If you're new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don't understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money's FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at CVS.

Be sure to sign up for a free CVS Extra Care card - you'll need it for the following deals (get it in store instead of online so they give you the card right away). You may also want to pick up a CVS green bag tag to earn ECBs for using reusable bags.

Transaction #1:
BUY:
2 Skinny Cow Single Crisp or Clusters Candy @ $0.99 each
1 Bic Soleil Shimmer Razor Starter Kit or Cartridges 4 ct @ $5.99

USE:
B1G1 Skinny Cow Chocolate Candy Singles 7/31 Red Plum or printable
$3/1 Bic Soleil Disposable or Soleil System Razor 7/10 Smart Source

Pay: $2.99 $3.98 + tax
Receive: $0.99 ECB for Skinny Cow + $3 ECB for Bic

Transaction #2:
BUY:
1 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power or Manual Razor @ $9.99

USE:
$4/1 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor 7/31 P&G insert
$0.99 ECB from previous transaction
$3 ECB from previous transaction

Pay: $2 + tax
Receive: $5 ECB

Transaction #3:
BUY:
3 Puffs tissue @ $0.88 each
1 Dawn dish detergent @ $0.99
1 Q-tips @ $1.66
1 Quaker Chewy bars 3-pack @ $0.88

USE:
$0.25/3 Puffs tissue 7/31 P&G insert
$0.50/1 Dawn 7/31 P&G insert
$0.30/1 Q-tips 7/31 Red Plum
$5 ECB from previous transaction

Pay: $0.12 + tax

Your total expense is $5.11 $6.10 + tax for 2 candy bars, disposable razors, a Fusion razor, three boxes of tissue, dish detergent, cotton swabs, and granola bars. The tissue alone could easily cost you that much at other stores. That's why I say you can get so much more for the same amount of money in The Drugstore Game. :)

Walgreens Starter Scenarios: 7/31 - 8/6/11

You'll find a list of this week's Walgreens deals here.

If you're new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don't understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money's FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at Walgreens. In these transactions, I assume that you do not have any Register Rewards to start with.

Transaction #1:
BUY:
1 Complete Multi-Purpose Solution @ $8

USE:
$1/1 Complete Multi-Purpose Solution 7/31 Smart Source

Pay: $7 + tax
Receive: $8 RR

Transaction #2:
BUY:
1 Crayola Washable Markers @ $2
2 Raisin Bran Cereal @ $2.50 each
2 Cheez-It and/or Keebler crackers @ $2.50 each
1 Sharpie 2-pack @ $0.69 with in-ad coupon
1 Wexford Pocket Folder with prongs @ $0.11

USE:
2 x $0.70/1 Kellogg’s Raisin Bran Cereal printable (FF or IE)
2 x $0.70/1 Sunshine or Keebler Crackers printable (FF or IE)
Sharpie in-ad coupon
$8 RR from previous transaction

Pay: Tax $1.20 + tax
Receive: $2 RR for Crayola + $5 RR for Raisin Bran/Crackers

Transaction #3:
BUY:
1 Allegra 24 Hour Allergy Relief @ $6.99
1 Goody Color Collection Snap Clip @ $2
1 Wexford Pocket Folder with prongs @ $0.11

USE:
$2/1 Allegra, Children’s Product, or Allegra D printable
$2 RR from previous transaction
$5 RR from previous transaction

Pay: $0.10 + tax
Receive: $2 RR for Goody + $6.99 Mail-In-Rebate for Allegra (found in 7/31 Smart Source)

In sum, you'll pay $7.10 $8.30 + tax for contact solution, markers, 2 boxes of cereal, 2 boxes of crackers, allergy meds, hair clips, and 2 folders. I think the mail-in-rebate could go either way - because your out of pocket total is so low on the receipt, there's a chance the manufacturer might refuse to honor the rebate. But, if it goes through, then your total cost is really only $0.11 $1.31 + tax + $0.44 for the stamp!

Rite Aid Starter Transactions: 7/31 - 8/6/11

You'll find a list of this week's Rite Aid deals here.

If you're new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don't understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money's FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at Rite Aid.

Be sure to sign up for a Wellness+ card - you'll need it for the following deals (get it in store instead of online so they give you the card right away). You may also need to register for Rite Aid Video Values to get some of the coupons listed below.

Transaction #1:
BUY:
1 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power or Manual Razor @ $9.99

USE:
$4/1 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor 7/31 P&G insert

Pay: $5.99 + tax
Receive: $5 +UP

Transaction #2:
BUY:
1 Oral B Complete or 3D Action Power Toothbrush @ $5.99
3 Puffs tissue @ $0.97 each

USE:
$3/1 Oral-B Battery Toothbrush 7/31 P&G insert
$0.25/3 Puffs tissue 7/31 P&G insert
$5 +UP from previous transaction

Pay: $0.65 + tax
Receive: $2.99 SCR for Oral B

Your out of pocket costs will be $6.64 + tax for all of these things, but you'll get $2.99 back via SCR so your total cost is really only $3.65 + tax. The regular price for two boxes of tissue at most stores would be more than that, so you can see how playing The Drugstore Game gets you a lot more stuff for the same amount of money.

Morning Coffee: Got my first VigLink payout

I mentioned VigLink last month as a sort of work-around for California residents who were dropped as Amazon Associates, and in case any other bloggers were wondering, it seems to be working pretty well. I joined VigLink in mid-May, and I just got my first payout from them via PayPal for my May earnings.

Coupon NetworkCoupon Network is offering some new coupons, including $0.75/3, $1.35/5 or $1.85/7 Knorr Rice and Pasta Sides, $2/1 People Magazine, and $1/2 Marie's dressing.

Red Plum has added a couple of new coupons for $1/1 Nivea for Men facial care product or $1/2 Nivea for Men shave gels, and $2/1 Samy Fat Hair 0 Calories.

Coupons.com still has the $1/1 Reach floss coupon - print two now, and then hold onto them for the 8/14 sale at Walgreens, when you'll be able to use the coupons to get free floss.

Daily deal site Mamapedia is offering one-year subscriptions to Parents magazine for just $5 (or get two years for $10). If you're a new Mamapedia customer, you can use coupon code 1YRPARENTS to get one year for just $3, or code 2YRPARENTS to get two years for just $6. Thank you if you join(ed) Mamapedia using my referral link!

Daily deal site Plum District is offering $20 worth of edible cupcake toppers for just $10 - and they're really adorable. These would be fantastic if you're not very good at icing cakes (I'm not) but prefer making your own cupcakes instead of buying them (as I do - those store-bought ones have more frosting than I'd prefer to give the kids). Thank you if you join(ed) Plum District using my referral link!

Cash back site Shop At Home is offering a free Colgate children's toothbrush with free shipping from Walmart. You'll pay $1.76 + tax upfront, then get $1.76 via cash back. {Note: This deal might be sold out but check back since it's available through noon PDT tomorrow.} I especially like this deal because while it's easy to get free adult toothbrushes through the Drugstore Game, free kid's toothbrushes are harder to come by. Thank you if you join(ed) Shop At Home using my referral link!

Amazon's free Android app of the day is Car Locator ($3.99 value), an app that remembers where you parked your car and reminds you to feed the parking meter, and gets 3.5 out of 5 stars in 43 reviews.

Get a free sample of Kirkland Signature Supreme Diapers from Costco (Kirkland is their store brand). Membership not required. (Via Common Sense with Money.)

Get a printable coupon for $0.50/1 Uni-ball product. (Via Printable Coupons and Deals.)

For the Mommas has a Rite Aid update - and she got almost $200 worth of stuff for free!

P&G/Walmart Family Movie Night: "Who Is Simon Miller?" + Giveaway

P&G and Walmart are continuing their commitment to deliver quality family entertainment - the latest installment is Who is Simon Miller?, which airs on Saturday (8/6) on NBC. Here's their synopsis:
Like most families, the Millers have their challenges. Simon's (Loren Dean) frequent business trips have created some distance between him and the rest of the family, leaving Meredith (Robyn Lively) stretched and struggling to keep things together. Daughter Sarah, an 18-year-old honor student, has recently gotten herself into trouble at school while son Kevin, 15, struggles to engage with anything outside of a video game. However, these issues all prove to be trivial when Simon goes missing.

Sensing something is not right, the family frantically searches Simon's office for information. Discovery of a stash of passports, all with Simon's picture but each with a different alias, reveals that their father has been keeping more than a few secrets. In a frantic phone call, Simon urges the family not to tell anyone of his disappearance, not even the authorities, right before the line goes dead. Who is Simon Miller? And what exactly has he gotten himself – and now his family – into?

Shocked, scared and unsure if they can even trust the dad they thought they knew, the three embark on their own international mission to get him back. With Meredith's sharp instincts, Sarah's foreign language skills and Kevin's natural tech genius, they try to unravel the mystery behind his disappearance. It's a heart-pounding family thriller that tests the limits to which families will fight for each other.
I've had the chance to preview the movie, and while I haven't finished it yet, I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. The only thing is that at ages 4 and 6, my kids are too young to enjoy it with me. They got bored pretty quickly, as the whole "spy" concept is a little too complicated for them to follow.

WIN IT!

P&G and Walmart want to give one lucky CFO reader a "Who Is Simon Miller?" movie kit containing candy, popcorn and a Family Movie Night DVD (probably not Who is Simon Miller? but one of the previous movies).

You can enter up to five times (one for each type), and you must complete the form once per entry. (To see the form again once you've completed it, just refresh the page.) Only one entry of each type per email address will be counted. I'll select the winner using Random.org and announce them here on CFO as well as contact them by email. The giveaway ends at 9 p.m. PDT on Saturday, August 6, 2011, and is open to U.S. residents only. Good luck!

Disclosure: I received a "Who is Simon Miller?" screening kit to facilitate this review. Any opinions are my own. Read the full CFO disclosure policy here.

Morning Coffee: $1/1 Tide detergent coupon

This weekend's coupon inserts should include one Smart Source, one Red Plum, and one P&G insert. Coupons inside include $1/1 Energizer battery pack, $1/1 Dove Body Wash, and $1/1 Tide detergent. Keep in mind that coupon inserts vary somewhat by region, so the coupons you get may be a little different from those listed at Sunday Coupon Preview.

The Libby's canned vegetable coupons are apparently back at Coupons.com (they never show for me). Sort by "Food" on the left to find them faster.

Daily deal site Zulily is having a huge blowout sale today - they often have popular high quality brands like Melissa & Doug, though you never know exactly what they'll have since they're a daily deal site.

Today's Ebates Daily Double store is Groupon, which is giving 6% cash back instead of the usual 3%. (Or get 8% back via Mr. Rebates.) Some hot Groupon deals today include:
  • 5 one-night DVD rentals for Blockbuster Express for $2 ($5 value) (Dayton)
  • One-year subscriptions to Martha Stewart Living AND Everyday Food for $20 ($36 value) (Los Angeles)

Evening Roundup: Just a few time-sensitive things

I'm still recovering, plus I'm taking care of the kids (I couldn't be the only one to get sick after all), so this will be just a quick round up of things that might not keep til morning:

It's almost the end of the month, which means some of the coupons at Coupons.com will be disappearing soon, but they're also coming out with some new ones every day it seems. Right now there's a new coupon for $0.75/1 Nature's Own product, and new "click here" to join the "Walk with Walgreens" program and enter to win a $100 Walgreens gift card and receive occasional coupons. There's also reportedly a coupon for $0.50/1 Frank's RedHot sauce, but I'm not seeing it.

Meanwhile, over at RedPlum, which hasn't had many coupons lately, there's a hot new coupon for $0.50/1 Neosporin or Band-Aid product.

SavingStarE-coupon site SavingStar has added Bloom stores to their network, so if you shop there, be sure to register and load their coupons to your card for extra savings.

Recyclebank's daily deal today is the printable coupon for $1/1 Honest Tea - it's 40 points instead of the usual 60, and valid today only so just for a few more hours.

If you're a Target shopper and you buy toys, the summer toy clearance has hit 75% off on some of the items at a store near me - I noticed the Bakugan Dragonoid Colossus was under $11 instead of over $40. But there were also a lot of toys that hadn't gone below the 30% mark yet too.

Get a free sample of Ball RealFruit Classic Pectin.

Money Saving Mom reports that that there are super cheap school supplies at Office Max right now.

Morning Coffee: Crest moneymaker at Ralphs

Southern Cali Saver reports that the free Crest deal at Ralphs is actually a moneymaker - buy 2 @ $2 and get a $2 Catalina coupon to use on your next purchase. Use one or more of the coupons I listed in the weekly match ups to turn this into a moneymaker. Now that I'm recovering, I'm taking care of a sick child (of course), but hopefully I'll be able to run over to Ralphs to check it out for myself - I mean, we're going to need to restock on Gatorade and Jell-O, right?

Coupons.com has a few more new coupons, including $1/1 Jergens Overnight Repair Lotion and $1/1 Natural Dentist product, plus the $1/1 Filippo Berio olive oil coupon is back. Some areas reportedly have dairy product coupons (lucky you!).

CellfireGood news for D'Agostino and Harps Food shoppers! Those new Cellfire.com coupons I mentioned yesterday can be loaded to your store cards now.

Amazon's $0.99 Instant Video rental of the day is The Fighter, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale and gets 4 out of 5 stars in 172 reviews. When you rent a video from Amazon, you generally have 30 days to watch it, and 24 to 48 hours from the time you started watching it to finish it.

Amazon Mom members can get 552 Huggies Soft Skin Wipes Refills for 2 cents per wipe - you'll need to clip the coupon underneath the price, and then order with Subscribe & Save to pay a total of $12.07. Amazon Mom membership is free, and you can cancel Subscribe & Save any time after your order ships.

Amazon's free Android app of the day is Jamie Oliver's 20 Minute Meals ($7.99 value), a recipe and how-to app that gets 3.5 out of 5 stars in 128 reviews.

Ralphs: 7/27 - 8/2/11

Note: This summary of deals is based on the ad I get in Los Angeles, where Ralphs stores double coupons up to $1 (one like coupon per transaction). I don't list all of the deals, only the good ones. If I missed any, please let us all know in the comments. You'll need a Ralphs Rewards card to get most of these deals, so I use the Rewards card price in this post and assume you have your card scanned with each transaction. In addition to the coupons listed, you can also add electronic coupons to your Ralphs Rewards card at these sites: Shortcuts.com, Cellfire.com, Softcoin and Upromise. Electronic coupons are not supposed to stack at Ralphs. I don't print every coupon, so please verify amounts and quantities listed. If you give Ralphs your email address, they may also send you emails with e-coupons that are exclusive to your card. If you give them your snail mail address, they may send coupon mailers to you. And if you bring reuseable bags, Ralphs will give you 5 Rewards points for each bag used (though you may need to remind the cashier). Some stores may still be doubling multiple like coupons per transaction, but this will reportedly stop within the next few weeks as stores' computers are updated.

I have gotten many questions about which specific stores double coupons. The best place to ask about specific stores is the Slickdeals SoCal Grocery thread. I also recommend emailing Ralphs and asking for their official coupon policy - it should state that they double one like coupon per transaction, and you can show it to the manager at any store you shop at and ask them to honor the corporate policy.
